The inaugural ceremony took place at Fullerton-Garrity Park, where the former tennis court has been transformed into a designated area for pickleball. By dividing the space into four badminton court-sized sections, equipped with modified tennis nets, Corsicana has successfully catered to the demands of both pickleball enthusiasts and newcomers alike. With paddles and a plastic ball adorned with holes, this versatile sport welcomes players of all ages and skill levels, encouraging engaging matches in both singles and doubles formats.

The initiative to introduce pickleball to Corsicana was driven by a passionate group of pickleball aficionados. Recognizing the growing interest, Parks Director Sharla Allen, in collaboration with community members Max Taylor, Elizabeth Hudson, and John Nelson, spearheaded the project. With their expertise and on-site assistance, the vision for the “Pickleball Zone” became a reality. Notably, the generous contributions from the Navarro Community Foundation and Community National Bank and Trust of Texas through the J. Tom Eady Charitable Foundation provided the necessary funding to bring this project to fruition.

The transformation of the tennis court into a dedicated pickleball facility involved various upgrades. The fencing received an update, the surface was repainted, new posts and nets were installed, and the addition of windscreens and lighting enhanced the overall experience. To ensure comfort, seating options such as benches and bleachers were installed, allowing spectators to enjoy the matches in style. The Pickleball Zone, situated at Fullerton-Garrity Park on 3201 McKnight Lane in Corsicana, is now open for everyone to enjoy.

During the ceremony, Mayor Mike Fletcher expressed gratitude to the community for their overwhelming support of the City’s latest endeavor. City Manager Connie Standridge, the City Council, and the Parks Board and Staff were acknowledged for their contributions in making the Pickleball Zone a reality.
